Untitled – #121

This is another picture of what we saw on that magnificent, snowy day in November 2023. There was a gentle snow accumulating, ducks and geese on the lake which hadn’t frozen over yet, and, as I recounted in another story, the sound of the snow as it gently landed on the surrounding plants filled the air if you listened carefully.

As always, regardless of the season, the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois, and specifically Lake Marmo, provided a memorable, peaceful time of shooting pictures.

This image is one of five taken that day that we put in our Etsy Shop. We loved the mood and the serenity reflected in these pictures which include Abstract – Untitled #118, Landscape – Untitled #119, Landscape – Untitled #120, and Landscape – Untitled – #122.

Landscape – Untitled #120

This stoic stand of trees beckoned our notice in November 2023. As we stopped and just took in the scene, there were so many things on display.

We saw the variety of colors, the blue greys of the sky, the browns of the foliage still on the trees, the green of the grass peeking through the thin cover of the newly falling snow; the contrast of the bareness of other trees.

And, as mentioned, in the story of Landscape – Untitled #119, the placid silence, solitude, and security to be found in and near the lakes, ponds, and forests in the Arboretum.

More of the story of this day can be found in the stories of the other four pictures from that day that can be found in our Etsy Shop, Abstract – Untitled #118, Landscape – Untitled #119, Landscape – Untitled #121 and Landscape – Untitled #122.

Landscape – Untitled #119

This is a companion picture, of sorts, to Abstract – Untitled #118, Landscape – Untitled #120, Landscape – Untitled #121, and Landscape – Untitled #122, all of which are in our Etsy Shop.

It is a day of gentle snow, silence, (but you could hear the snow falling!!), solitude, peace, and belonging.

This picture is of Lake Marmo in the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois, taken in November 2023. The story of Abstract – Untitled #118 provides a bit more backdrop to that enchanting day. The camera and its settings capture not only the landscape and reflections in the lake but the snowflakes, seen as subtle streaks, falling all around us, coating the surroundings.

Abstract – Untitled #118

We visited the Morton Arboretum, in Lisle, Illinois, a couple days after Thanksgiving 2023. It turned out to be a beautiful day with a gently falling snow.

In this picture we loved the contrast between the red fruit on this Winterberry bush, (apropos name for the occasion?) and the white of the fresh snow, each complementing yet highlighting the other.

The berries and their branches seemed to provide a welcomed support to the snow as if to offer a platform for its delicate beauty.

We included four other pictures from this wintery Thanksgiving weekend in our Etsy Shop. In there you will find this, Abstract – Untitled #118, as well as Landscape – Untitled #119, Landscape – Untitled #120, Landscape – Untitled #121 and Landscape – Untitled #122

Landscape – Untitled #117

This picture is one of three that we selected to put in our Etsy Shop from the same place and day in November 2023. The full story can be found in the story of Landscape – Untitled #115.

Again, these three pictures, Landscape – Untitled #115, #116, and #117 can be found in our Etsy Shop.

Landscape – Untitled #116

Landscape – Untitled #115

In November 2023 we were at the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois in, what proved to be a rather crisp, raw, pre-winter day. As is our habit, if we don’t have a clearly defined destination, we will drive along the paved roads throughout the Arboretum until we feel “led” to pull over and just see where our footsteps take us.

It was a chilly, windy day which precluded any macrophotography for certain. As we walked down the path, a short distance from the car, braving the cold wind, we noticed the clouds in the sky over this section of the surroundings near Crab Apple Lake. The way they were, it seemed, “sculpted,” and “brushed” in such unique fashion determined that we should put them in our Etsy Shop for those who are drawn to the sky and cloud portraits in particular.

Also included in this type of “grouping” from that day that can be found in our Etsy Shop are Landscape – Untitled #116 and Landscape – Untitled #117.

Abstract – Untitled #114

In September 2023 we were, once again, at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. We had parked the car in a parking lot near the woods and just strolled about the area patiently anticipating what might capture our attention.

At the edges of the parking area, just past where the asphalt ends, is a row of wooden posts set to keep cars from driving into the plants. The top of one of the posts is visible in the center of the picture. Projected on the top of the post is the silhouette of a nearby plant. We love black and white photography and put this rendition of the image in that format in our Etsy Shop. We felt a bit of abstract mystique portrayed in this picture and offer it as such.

Landscape – Untitled #113

This is the first still photograph taken from our drone to be placed in our Etsy Shop.

Taken in October 2023, this image, taken from about 400 feet, shows part of the Village Links of Glen Ellyn golf course in the foreground all the way to the Chicago skyline, on the horizon, a distance of about 15-16 miles.

This is just the first of many that will arrive in our Etsy Shop and we couldn’t be happier and filled with anticipation for this new perspective and dimension in capturing the moments!

Tree – Untitled #112

Last year (2023) we did a thing: we bought a drone!

We have this tree near our home that turned dazzling colors in the Fall of 2023. We walked over and I decided to not only get some still pictures but to practice taking videos and maneuvering in a circle around the tree at the same time. Absolutely not easy!!!

After all of that challenging fun we got the video on the computer to watch our first real video attempt. In the process we saw this still picture, which we were able to gather thanks to some incredible software, of this singular ray of the sun coming through the tree.

We will be adding many more pictures from the drone in the days to come. Stay tuned!!
