Untitled – #68

Lake Marmo lies within the confines of the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois. As I have mentioned often in these stories, it is one of our favorite places within the Arboretum.

Near the middle of Lake Marmo is a tree on a tiny island. We affectionately call it the “Island Tree.” Taken in October 2022, this picture gives you our perspective of the “Island Tree” on that day. We enjoy walking around the lake which gives us so many interesting and unique perspectives of the “Island Tree” in contrast to its surroundings.

In our Etsy Shop you can also find Untitled #33, Untitled #49, and Untitled #50, all of which were taken on that beautiful day.

Trees – Untitled #34

This is a picture of a honey locust tree. The tree is profusely covered with thorns. They are real, they are sharp, and they do hurt!

I present this picture in black and white, which is almost a true representation of the tree and its accompanying thorns as both are a dark grey to black. I feel like the timing on this picture is ideal with respect to the angle of the sun as the shadows of the thorns add highlight to this most interesting tree.

We captured this image in September 2022 at the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois. Another picture in our shop from that day is Untitled #58.

Trees – Untitled #33

As I continue to say in these stories, we are blessed to live so near the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois.

This picture of a red maple, taken in October 2022, as the Fall colors began to emerge, is next to Lake Marmo, one of our favorite places in the Arboretum.

We walked around the lake that day and from the side opposite the tree we saw, and captured, this beautiful tree and its reflection in the water.

Other pictures taken that day that appear in our Etsy Shop are Landscape – Untitled #49, Landscape – #50, and Trees – #68.

Trees – Untitled #21

I love the way leaves cast shadows upon each other, as they do in this picture.

I captured this red-leaf-shadow moment in May of 2017. We were at Wilson Beach, just north of Montrose Beach, in Chicago, flying kites with some friends. This tree, near the beach, with its colors, shadows, and textures, caught my eye. This color and shape, contrasted against a cloudy blue sky, is the result. Enjoy!

Trees – Untitled #8

This is a companion picture to Landscape – Untitled #1, both of which were taken October 9, 2011. They are in the setting of the sunrise at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve near Chesterton, Indiana.

There is parking off of Indiana Highway 49 on the east side of Coffee Creek. From there, immediately to the west there is a hill. On the top of the hill is a tree and a bench. In this picture, I’ve captured the moment when the rising sun just breaks over the top of the hill. It really was a beautiful, serene sunrise that day. I’m so glad I was able to get these colorful, radiant effects of the sun that morning. We hope you enjoy it and they speak to you in a unique way.

Trees – Untitled #7

In May 2011, a friend and I took our cameras to the property of a mutual friend. We simply wandered in the woods taking pictures. I have often found myself, as is evidenced by some other images in our Etsy Shop “AbbasImages,” being near a tree or group of trees and just looking up. I couldn’t tell you why, really, but I’m drawn to consider the height and grandeur of trees in that moment and consider the forces it or they had to overcome to reach into the sky the way they do; and then to sustain and endure season after season. Inspiring.
