In September 2024, Carrie and I took a cruise to Alaska. We took over 650 pictures (certainly could have taken many more), and divided the 29 we dedicated to our Etsy Shop into 6 groups: Out to Sea, At Sea/Mendenhall Glacier, Skagway, Glacier Bay National Park, Ketchikan, and Return to Vancouver.
This section, Skagway, is comprised of five images, Alaska – Untitled #132 through #136.
After leaving Juneau we sailed to Skagway, an unincorporated but populated area in one of the many inlets that make up Alaska’s jagged coastline.
Our excursion in Skagway was to take a bus from near where our cruise ship docked to a train that would take us to higher elevations in the mountains and into Canada near White Pass, and then take the bus down the mountain, making two photo op stops, back to Skagway to board the ship for the next part of our cruise.
We were beyond delighted to find that our bus was assigned to the very last car on the train!! We had the freedom to step outside the car onto the back platform of the car from where I was free to take the pictures you see. It rained the entire time (except when it turned to snow in the higher elevations near the Canadian border) and a portion of the roof of the car extended over the rear platform affording protection to me and the camera from the elements. In essence, I took all of these pictures in this group from the back of a moving train, the scenery receding away from me except for the last one which will have its own unique story.
Once again, I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
